Space Live Wallpaper for iPhone
Astronomical imagery with deep-field cosmic motion. Which space photos animate well, which vibe to pick, and how to set one as a native Live Photo lock screen.
What makes a space live wallpaper work
Astronomical imagery with deep-field cosmic motion. A live wallpaper is a native Live Photo — a paired .heic still and .mov clip — so the motion has to look like it belongs to the scene rather than like an effect applied on top. For space photos that means star twinkle, nebula pulse, comet trail.
Which space photos actually animate well
Images with a clear central object — a planet, a galaxy core — rather than an even scatter of stars.
The common failure: Astrophotography is often noisy at high ISO, and the motion pass amplifies noise into visible crawling. Prefer clean, low-noise sources.
Which vibe to choose for space
Cinematic — slow and vast. The four vibes — Warm, Playful, Cinematic and Lively — change how much the scene moves and how quickly, not what moves. You can regenerate the same photo with a different vibe if the first result is too strong or too subtle.
Positioning a space wallpaper under the clock
As with galaxy scenes, the dark field makes this one of the most reliable subjects for clock legibility. The lock screen clock occupies roughly the top third of the screen, and iOS will not move it, so composition has to work around it. Pinch to reposition during setup, and check the preview before tapping Add. For the full set of layout controls, see editing your iPhone lock screen.

Frequently asked questions
Can I use any space photo?
Yes — Lockimate works on any still image from your camera roll. Images with a clear central object — a planet, a galaxy core — rather than an even scatter of stars.
Why does my space wallpaper barely move?
Astrophotography is often noisy at high ISO, and the motion pass amplifies noise into visible crawling. Prefer clean, low-noise sources. If the source is fine, check that Low Power Mode is off and that Reduce Motion is off under Settings → Accessibility → Motion — both suppress lock screen animation entirely.
Does it work on the home screen too?
iOS supports Live Photo wallpapers on the lock screen only. The home screen uses the still frame. This is an Apple platform limitation, not an app restriction.
What do I need to run it?
Live Photo lock screen wallpapers require iOS 17 or later and work on every iPhone model except iPhone SE. iOS 16 removed the feature and iOS 17 restored it.
How many wallpapers can I make?
Your first wallpaper is free. A Lockimate membership includes 10 wallpapers every month across Realistic and the restyles — Neon Coast, Anime, 3D Cartoon, Painterly, or a look you describe in words.
